History

DT Group has, over the last century, grown into the largest retailer and distributor of building materials in the Nordic region as well as the market leader in heating and plumbing product distribution in Central and Eastern Europe. It all began in Aarhus Trælasthandel, in 1896, in Aarhus, Denmark.

 

DT Group in time

  • 1896

    The group is founded April 23 under the name Aarhus Trælasthandel

  • 1908

    Odder Trælasthandel is established as the first subsidiary

  • 1918

    The group opens a department in Copenhagen and changes its name to DDT A/S

  • 1933

    The group is listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange

  • 1968

    First Silvan opens in Slagelse

  • 1977

    3 companies merge and DDT Detail is founded

  • 1988

    The group is divided into divisions and Silvan is hived off

  • 1989

    Expansion to Sweden with the acquisition of Beijer Byggmaterial

  • 1990

    Takeover of 30 stores gathered under Calkas

  • 1996

    The group is renamed Danske Trælast A/S

  • 1997

    Expansion to Norway with the acquisition of Neumann Bygg

  • 1999

    First virtual store for professional customers

  • 2000

    Expansion to Finland with the acquisition of Starkki

  • 2002

    First Cheapy store opens in Kristianstad, Sweden

  • 2003

    CVC Capital Partners acquires Danske Trælast and the group is delisted from the Copenhagen Stock Exchange

  • 2005

    The Danish divison of the group DDT Detail changes its name to STARK

  • 2006

    Danske Trælast A/S changes its name to DT Group a/s

    Wolseley plc acquires DT Group a/s

  • 2007

    DT Group acquires Superbyg Kalallit Nunaat, Greenland

  • 2008

    Woodcote becomes part of DT Group due to focused strategy

    DT Trade division is dissolved and the stores is allocated to other divisions within DT Group

    Silvan opens the first e-shop for DIY customers in Denmark

  • 2010

    Wolseley CE becomes part of DT Group due to organisational changes in Wolseley plc
